Mother's Day in the United States falls on the second Sunday of May. In 2026 the date is Sunday, May 10. Most of Canada, Australia, and a wide list of other countries celebrate the same day. The UK and Ireland follow a different tradition called Mothering Sunday, set on the fourth Sunday of Lent (March 22 in 2026). The holiday in its current US form was established in 1914 by President Wilson, championed by Anna Jarvis. By the 1920s Jarvis was campaigning against the commercialization of the holiday she had created.
